To promote Charlotte’s growing reputation as a center for contemporary classical music and dance through unique educational experiences, compelling performances, and innovative collaborations across artistic disciplines.
As of late 2017, we have proudly presented over 70 concerts full of premieres for contemporary classical music, and 11 concerts premiering new music and dance collaborations. For the 7th year in a row, we are happy to welcome composers, musicians, choreographers, and dancers from all over the world to the CNMF family!
The Composers Workshop is a unique two-week event that gathers about thirty emerging composers to work closely with world-class performers and distinguished faculty in the creation of new works for performance at the Charlotte New Music Festival. Participants will hone their craft, build their professional networks, listen to a lot of exciting new music, and receive valuable and pragmatic career advice.
This two-week workshop is designed for musicians, sound artists, and programmers. Using Cycling ’74’s Max software as our primary platform, we will work together to create imaginative and innovative interactive works for laptop computers and live performers.
In this two-week choreography and dance intensive, choreographers and dancers will work together with musicians from the Composers Workshop to create new works that seamlessly blend music and dance. Participants will attend technique and choreography classes presented by accomplished professionals, create and rehearse original works, and participate in live performances.
