Intern with one of the up and coming events in the Charlotte music scene!

 

 

Each summer, the Charlotte New Music Festival invites several interns who wish to gain practical experience in a warm and friendly atmosphere.  All our interns work closely with the Festival’s administration and are an integral part of our tight-knit community.  Every intern is invited to share their own unique ideas and perspectives in the operations of our summer Festival.

 

2014 OPENINGS for interns:

Administration, Photographer, Videographer, Recording Engineer

Photographer (2-3 positions open for 2014)

 

Dates: 6/17/14 – 6/29/14

 

Description.  This internship is designed for current college students at the undergraduate or graduate level.  The successful intern will be someone studying Photography or Photojournalism and preparing himself/herself for a career in the visual arts field. Responsibilities will include the documentation of all festival activities including the photography of rehearsals, concerts (8 music & dance), classes/workshops, and other various events.  A final portfolio of edited images which captures the general character and atmosphere of the Festival will be due 2-3 weeks after the Festival.

 

Compensation.  This internship is unpaid, however you may earn college credit.  Photos are distributed to all musicians and participants, displayed on the Festival website and social media, Festival films, and future Festival marketing outlets – full recognition will be given to the intern wherever applicable.

 

Requirements.  Previous experience in a similar position is a plus.  Must have your own reliable equipment.

Videographer (2-3 positions open for 2014)

 

Dates: 6/17/14 – 6/29/14

 

Description.  This internship is designed for one or two current college students at the undergraduate or graduate level.  This internship is ideal for someone studying videography and/or preparing himself/herself for a career in film or the visual arts field. Responsibilities will include recording video of all festival concerts (total of 8 music & dance) and getting some footage of rehearsals or other various events.  A final portfolio of the edited concert videos and extra footage which captures the general character and atmosphere of the Festival will be due 2-3 weeks after the Festival.  If you are also interested, we would like to have a short promo video put together using concert, rehearsal, and social event footage.  This would be due within 6-8 weeks after the festival.

 

Compensation.  This internship is unpaid, however you may earn college credit.  Videos are distributed to all musicians, streamed on the Festival website and social media, and future Festival marketing outlets – full recognition will be given to the intern wherever applicable.

Arts Administration Internship (1-2 positions open 2013-2014)

 

Dates: flexible start date between August 2013 through June 2014.  Position can be for 3 months, 6 months, or 12 months.  (12-month intern will receive a small stipend)

 

The internship is designed for one or two current college students at the undergraduate or graduate level preparing himself/herself for a career in arts or business administration, concert production, arts/non-profit management, event management.  This internship is unpaid, however you may earn college credit the experience here will place you in a much more personal and meaningful working environment than the vast majority of other music festivals in the region.  CNMF features nationally renowned artist, composers, and teachers.  We will also accept applications for music students in the area looking for opportunities in artist and event management.

 

Compensation.  This internship is unpaid, however you may earn up to 3 college credits.  You will also have something great to add to your résumé and you could feel free to use us as a reference.

Recording Engineer (1 position open for 2014)

 

Dates: 6/18/14 – 6/29/14

 

Description.  This internship is designed for current college students at the undergraduate or graduate level or early professionals.  The successful intern will be one who is preparing himself/herself for a career as a recording engineer and/or studying recording and production techniques.  Duties and responsibilities will include the recording and editing of all festival concerts; mostly of chamber music ensembles and soloists.

 

Compensation.  This internship is unpaid, however you may earn college credit.  Final recordings are distributed to all musicians, will be used for radio broadcasts, on the website, Festival films, and future Festival marketing outlets – full recognition will be given to the intern wherever applicable.  Recordings are due 2-3 weeks after the festival.

 

Requirements.  Previous experience in a similar position is a plus.  The intern must have experience recording classical music ensembles including the skills of microphone placement, stage set up, mixing, editing, and mastering.  The intern must bring their own equipment which includes microphones, microphone stands, cables, and a complete and reliable digital recording workstation.
